Auntie Dawn decided that it would be really fun for the kids to put together a ’25 days of Christmas’ activity. This involved a lot of planning on her part – a lot! After about a month of preparing, shopping, and organizing, she dropped everything off December 2nd. Each kid would get to open a gift every day. One a day for 25 days. The gifts included small things, crafts, things to do with Mom and Dad, etc. The night she brought them by, they each got to open a gift. Now, Brecken only being 18 months old, wasn’t sure what to do. I opened his bag, let him peek inside and he pulled out a little Hot Wheels car! Cool, he thought. Then he was off to the next activity of his. Didn’t really care. Aubrey got some fingernail polish and was happy go lucky. Now we explained to both kids that they only get one gift a day.
The next day, I asked the kids if they wanted to open a gift. Of course Aubrey came running down the hall shouting yes! yes! yes! Brecken followed her running behind, not realizing what was going on but he knew he was excited. He was a little more aware of what was happening this time and he was patiently waiting for the treat in the bag. He opened his bag, enjoyed the gift for a second and went right to the tree and handed me another bag to open. Sorry buddy, only one a day.
Since the second day, he has been bringing me gifts from under the tree several times a day. When we ask if he is ready for a gift, he comes running with excitement! He always wants more than one, but I would too!! They have had quite the time opening little gifts each day! I think it was totally worth the effort! Here are a few pics of them! I won’t take one everyday, but a few along the way are cute!
Aubrey is also putting together a Christmas Countdown that they made at school. Every day, she is to find the next number, sound out the letter and place it on the strip of paper. Once there is a word, we help her sound it out. At the end of the year, it will say, “We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year”. What a cute idea! We also read a small Bible verse each day when we put up a letter.
