So, Aubrey has been talking about kindergarten all summer! She was so excited to get school supplies, a new backpack, shoes, and a lunchbox. We have been working all summer on tying her shoes, reading, and math. All in all, she was ready. So, today was the day. Jason and I helped her choose her outfit, packed her a lunch, and prepared her for her first day.
At first, she was only a tiny bit shy, then she opened right up when her teacher, Mrs. Hensley, introduced herself. She told Aubrey she had a ‘secret’ – that her name was AuDrey!! I can tell it’s going to be a good year! When it was time to part, Aubrey did so well until the kids around her started crying. She shed some tears but, after some comforting, she was off to play with her new friends. We got to give her tons of hugs and kisses and tell her that today she was going to have an amazing day!
Honestly, I felt pretty good about the whole thing until she was gone, the parents were left in the classroom to have ‘orientation’ and then it hit me – our baby has grown up and has started school. I fought back some tears for a little while, but I managed to keep it together.
That was it…..looking back as I write this, I cry thinking about how sweet she is, how scared she must be and how fast she is growing up. I better stop, slow down and enjoy her little moments while I can!!!
